Lee Byung-kyu, who joined LG through the first nomination in 1997, was a true franchise star of LG when he was a player.
He batted 311, 2043 hits, 161 home runs and 972 RBIs in 1,741, winning seven Golden Gloves, four most hits, and two batting titles.
He is also the second player to receive LG's permanent number after Kim Yong-soo.
His main goal in this comeback is twofold.
First, strengthen basic skills. Following Yeom Kyung-yeop's request, he plans to focus on the basic skills of the second-tier Korean players. "I lack basic skills right now," he said, stressing that he will strengthen the basic skills in the field.
Second, it is to spread the joy of baseball. "There are many young players in the second division," he said. "We will create an atmosphere where players can play baseball boldly and joyfully in the baseball stadium."
His coaching philosophy goes beyond just the technicality to awaken enthusiasm and enjoyment of baseball.
What is interesting is his humble leadership. "I don't think I do much," he said, adding that he would give the coaches the authority, and that he would draw a big picture from behind. At the same time, he emphasized that he would create an atmosphere where people can talk candidly as a senior baseball player, displaying his commitment to faithfully play his role of mentoring as a senior.
